Hey!

Sorry just don't have the time. I cut out the sports groups (football,
soccer, rugby, etc.) the wine groups, and some writers groups social
stuff when I decided to test out how effective the social networks might
be for business. So far I've kicked Bebo, FF, and stuck it out with
MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. There's only so much time I can spend
online and most of the newsgroups are dying, anyway. You're the first
post in a couple of weeks in my group. Last time I looked the Chargers
ng was down to about a dozen regular posters anyway and a flood of
trolls.

Also, between my kids being teenagers, a full time way-too-young
girlfriend, a movie development deal, a television pilot development
project, and books to write, just don't have as much time to spend
electively online.

Thanks for saying hi, though. This is the year, IMHO. Go Chargers!

Best, R.E.F.

No, actually. Sandreena is based on a toon I run occasionally on WoW.
I don't know why I did it, because before I had named my toons after
characters I'd already written. But when I needed a cleric for the last
few books and the last series I'm writing now, I just had her pop into
my head as a great choice. The backstory about her and Amirantha is
also a product of them boing being WoW toons.

The imagination works when you don't think it is, sometimes, and I
really like that girl as a literary character more than I would another
guy, I think.

As for Her Tallness, she's an inspiration for a lot of things, but a
book character not yet. She's out of town this weekend, which sucks,
but she's working, which is a good thing, and she'll be back by Tuesday.

Heh! I didn't know that you played WoW. I've not got hooked on it but have
played a mates toons a couple times. Too much micro-management for my
liking. I like a game to be relaxing. ;-)

Yeah, I like her too. S'funny, you and I have sorta grown up together in a
way. I read Magician when I was around 20 and have read everything you've
written since (TTBOMK at least). I noticed in 'Rides' how much more
complex/adult the characters back stories are compared with Magician (which
I re-read recently). Both are excellent books, just written by a man at a
different time of his life, with different experiences. It's all good.

LOL. That would sort of obviate the reason why I cut back, wouldn't it?

Besides, I suspect Iceberg has come out of the woodwork, and Randal, KG,

Maybe so but like it or not, believe it or not, you're the patriarch
of the group. One might even say you have a responsibility to check
in every now and again. You know, every couple of games or so just
stop by and provide us with an observation, quip or witticism.
Consider your input to the group as a beacon of sound reason amidst a

LOL, again. First of all, that group was around for years before I
found it, and it apparently is trudging on after I'm gone. Secondly, if
there's a "patriarch," it's Robin, which is sort of a gender-bender, I
know, but you get what I mean.

Me, I just finished cooking dinner for my 25 year old, 6' tall model
girlfriend and her roomie who's about to go to India for four months,
and one of the reasons I could spend most of the day making a killer
dinner is I'm not on alt.sports.football.pro-sd-chargers,
alt.sports.football.pro, alt.food.wine, net.food.drink.wine,
rec.arts.sf, sff.net, etc. any more. The amount of time I spent arguing
trivial with people as if it was significant, way too out of line.

Life is so much better without the static.

REF, you are killin me. First you posted about your being too busy
because of your "way too young for you" girlfriend and now you add
"model"!?!?

Damn. I took engineering. I should have went into lit. Sonofa... Or
maybe I should have moved to SD like I always said I would. Either way,
want to trade for a week? I can take that day long cooking off your
hands.... won't even have to pay me! You can shovel snow, right?

Don't feel you need to come back to the group. You are very correct in
your assumptions about iceberg coming out of the woodwork and the
bickering. The "fire Norv" and "fire Ron" and cut X player is all the
norm now. Noone remembers the fine days of Al Saunders as coach anymore.
At least they have a chance to win each week. Expectations are just way
too high anymore. It was nice to have your POV every once in a while but
the amound of grief you would get over it isn't worth the effort.
Especially considering your alternative recreation. Are you sure her
roommate is going to India? Isn't she going to Wisconsin to do a beer
commercial or cheese ad? Please.... with curds on top....

Monday is the determination of the season, but being that late (kids to
bed, early to work) I will be TIVO'ing it and watching Tuesday. I'll
listen to Magician Master to take my mind off checking scores so I can
get to sleep, but if they lose that one, they may as well start trying
out the younger guys for next year. There would be a long shot at WC,
but that would be it.

On a side note, loving MM so far, but the lack of Pug in the opening has
me anticipating something big. Just got to the escape from Krondor last
night. "It's just getting good..."

Well, she's a peach, even if there are days when it feels like I have a
third kid. The age difference isn't all that a big deal unless she and
I suddenly get "serious" and then it gets REALLY serious, i.e. she
marries me she buries me.

Monday is the deal breaker. They lose to Denver and they're spending
the rest of the season chasing for the Wild Card, which I don't see
happening in the AFC West, unless they run the table.

Glad you're enjoying the work. I'm heading down to a 6:30 pre-breakfast
meeting before a 7:00 meeting with a producer who will tell me he hasn't
read the book, but he's heard good things from those who have and who do
I think should play what . . . I've been doing this for thirty fucking
years and it NEVER changes. One of these days one of these bright boys
is going to write me a check and then I'll be happy. Still, you have to
take all the meetings because you never know which meeting will be the
one.

Re: the group, I don't miss it. The personalities are stuck in stone.
Robin's a sweetie even if she plays mom too much and Randal is a very
angry guy, from what I can see. Kurgan's not too bad except he'd rather
have his dick burned off with a blowtorch than admit he's wrong. Scott
is just a bite in the ass without much to add, from my point of view.
ChuckD is hyper and too easily offended and go into flame mode. Ice
just needs his meds adjusted. Guys like you and Centella, Al (Ol' 77),
and a few others made it worth while, but now it just is trolls and
annoying regulars the last time I looked. I can get that in bars and
they have drinks and hot chicks there. <g>

Take care. Got to run; I'm now fashionably late.

Centella, Al (Ol' 77), and a few others made it worth while, but now
it just is trolls and annoying regulars the last time I looked. I can
get that in bars and they have drinks and hot chicks there. <g>
Take care. Got to run; I'm now fashionably late.
Best, R.E.F.
With all the steaming turds they have made in the last 10 years, and
remakes of TV series that sucked, I hope you land somebody that knows
what the hell they are doing! LOTR was great, but this would be totally
awesome. It would be like when Arnie came out with Conan but not snarky
and cheesy. If they shoot Crydee on Lake Superior or Michigan and need
extras - I'm in! (maybe I could be a much balder Fanon! Probably closer
to Amos, but that part should have been Alan Hale!!! HAHA!! Actually
Ernest Borgnine would have been great for that too!) Ha! Awesome that
there might be movement on a film though, and if they will pay to make a
pile like GI Joe or Transformers 2, they should offer you up a mint!
Just don't let them rip it to shreds like Cussler's Sahara. Couldn't
even recognize that from the book!

Good luck!

Well, one never knows. The reality is that the author of the book has
zero control over the film making process. Cussler loves to complain
about Raise the Titanic (valid) and Sahara (invalid). He had loads of
input into the later and while it wasn't vintage Dirk Pitt, it was a
decent enough action film.

Funny you mention Buddy Hale (assuming your talking about Jr.,
"Gilligan's Island," and not Sr. countless Errol Flynn films) as he was
a dear friend of the family and gave my father's eulogy back in 1965.

Anyway, take it easy and don't let them make you crazy.

Monday is the deal breaker. They lose to Denver and they're spending
the rest of the season chasing for the Wild Card, which I don't see
happening in the AFC West, unless they run the table.
I read that and thought you were talking about the Titans ....

Still, you have to
take all the meetings because you never know which meeting will be the
one.
Oh FFS ... TV/Hollywood producers ... do not give them an inch mate.
Dunno about you but I'd rather your books never make it to TV/Movie
than let some 2 fekkin braincell Hollywood "producer" produce their
"vision" of them. U571 anyone .....

Maybe so but like it or not, believe it or not, you're the patriarch
of the group. One might even say you have a responsibility to check
in every now and again. You know, every couple of games or so just
stop by and provide us with an observation, quip or witticism.
Consider your input to the group as a beacon of sound reason amidst a
sea of bickering nitwits.
LOL, again. First of all, that group was around for years before I
found it, and it apparently is trudging on after I'm gone. Secondly,
if there's a "patriarch," it's Robin, which is sort of a
gender-bender, I know, but you get what I mean.
Me, I just finished cooking dinner for my 25 year old, 6' tall model
girlfriend and her roomie who's about to go to India for four months,
and one of the reasons I could spend most of the day making a killer
dinner is I'm not on alt.sports.football.pro-sd-chargers,
alt.sports.football.pro, alt.food.wine, net.food.drink.wine,
rec.arts.sf, sff.net, etc. any more. The amount of time I spent
arguing trivial with people as if it was significant, way too out of
line.
Life is so much better without the static.
Best, R.E.F.
I could almost use that for a sig Ray, except I still spend way too much
time in rec.autos.sport.f1.

Cheers,
